Who we are
Crafted Edge is run by Aliaksei Tunik, a Greater Boston carpenter who has spent years building exterior carpentry projects for homeowners and as a subcontractor for established area firms, including Tom Curren Companies, one of the region's most respected design-build contractors.
In 2024 we launched Crafted Edge as a direct-to-homeowner specialist for exterior work: decks, porches, doors, windows, siding, and structural framing. The idea was straightforward — most homeowners who need a new deck don't want to hire a full-service remodeling firm with a sales team and project managers. They want a skilled carpenter who will do the work well, pull the permits, and finish on time. That's what we do.
"We don't do phone quotes. We don't send salespeople. The person giving you an estimate is the person building the project."
What we actually build
We're a specialist, not a general contractor. The work we take on is work we're genuinely good at:
New deck construction in composite, pressure-treated, cedar, and PVC. We build to Massachusetts State Building Code (780 CMR), pull permits in every town we work in, and don't cut corners on ledgers, flashing, or hardware. Our new decks range from $14,000 for a straightforward pressure-treated 200-sqft platform to $45,000+ for a full composite build with aluminum railing, built-in benches, and pergola.
Deck repair and replacement. When a deck can be saved, we repair it. When it can't, we tell you honestly and quote the rebuild. We've written about this on our blog.
Porches, stairs, and railings. New porch construction, porch rebuilds, and repair work. Front porches, back porches, and the wraparound porches common on older Greater Boston homes.
Door and window installation. Entry doors, French doors, patio doors, and window replacements. We handle flashing, weatherproofing, and trim-out.
Siding and exterior trim. Siding repair and partial replacement. Trim work including fascia, soffit, corner boards, and column repair.
Structural framing for additions, carriage house conversions, and the kind of exterior work that touches load-bearing structure. We know when a job needs an engineer stamp and we don't start work without the right paperwork.
How we're different
Where we work
We're based in Dedham and serve Greater Boston within about an hour of our shop. We work regularly in 14+ cities including Dedham, Westwood, Walpole, Norwood, Canton, Sharon, Milton, Needham, Newton, Brookline, Cambridge, Medford, Watertown, and Quincy. If your town isn't listed, we still may be a fit — reach out and we'll let you know.
Our standard
Simple test: would we be comfortable showing another carpenter the inside of the work? Not just the finished deck boards and railings, but the ledger flashing, the joist hangers, the footings, the hardware we chose. If the answer isn't yes, we don't move on. That rule drives everything from the materials we spec to how we stage the work.
We've built that standard because we also work as a subcontractor for firms whose inspectors won't miss anything. What's good enough for a Tom Curren Companies project is what we build for direct homeowner clients too.
