How We Work

Our Proven
Process

A clear, structured approach to every project — from the first phone call to the final walkthrough. No surprises, no shortcuts. Here's exactly what working with Crafted Edge Carpentry looks like.

01
First Contact
You Call Us

Every project starts with a conversation. When you reach out — by phone, form, or email — we'll ask about your project, your home, your timeline, and what matters most to you. This isn't a sales call. It's us figuring out whether we're the right fit for what you need.

We're straightforward: if your project isn't in our wheelhouse, or if the timing doesn't work, we'll tell you that and, where we can, point you to someone who can help. If we're aligned, we'll move to the next step.

"We don't take every job. We take the jobs we can do well." — Aliaksei Tunik, Owner
02
On-Site Assessment
Exterior Carpentry Assessment

We send a crew to your home for a full exterior carpentry assessment. This means we look at everything — deck, porch, framing, siding, trim, soffit, fascia, gutters. Not just the thing you called about.

Most homeowners are surprised by what we find. A rotting ledger board behind a finished deck. Framing damage under peeling paint. We'd rather find it now — while we're standing there — than have you discover it as a bigger problem a year from now.

The assessment is complimentary. No cost, no obligation.

We look at the whole picture, not just the symptom. That's how we catch the problems that other contractors miss.
03
Documentation
Written Problem Report

After the assessment, you get a written report — not a verbal summary over the phone. The report includes every issue we found, with photos, clear descriptions, and priority levels (urgent, soon, monitor).

This means you can make informed decisions about what to fix now and what can wait. You're not relying on our word — you have documentation you can refer back to, share with a spouse or landlord, or use when getting other quotes.

No vague talk. No inflated scopes. Just what we found, why it matters, and what we'd recommend.
04
Pricing
Detailed Estimate

We send a fully itemized estimate — line by line, with material options and pricing for each scope item. You see exactly what each part of the job costs. No lump sums. No mysterious "allowances."

Where material choices affect the price (PT vs composite, PVC vs pine trim), we present both with honest guidance on the tradeoffs — durability, maintenance, cost. You decide what fits your home and your budget.

You can approve the full scope, scale it back, or phase the work. The estimate is yours to review without pressure — we want you to feel confident before you sign anything.

You'll never get a surprise invoice from Crafted Edge Carpentry. If something changes during the job, we document it and discuss it with you first.
05
Paperwork & Approvals
Plan & Permit

We handle the permit application, construction drawings, and all coordination with your local building department when permits are required. Based in Dedham, we work across Greater Boston, and permit requirements vary from town to town — we know the differences and handle them for you.

When a permit is required, we don't start work until it's approved and in hand. This protects you as the homeowner — unpermitted work can create serious problems when you sell your home, and it can mean costly retrofits if an inspector flags it later.

Permits are obtained when required by the municipality and project scope, and every project is built to the Massachusetts State Building Code (780 CMR).
06
The Work
We Build It

The crew arrives on schedule. The site stays clean — debris contained, materials organized, access to your home managed with care. You get updates throughout the project, not radio silence.

If something unexpected comes up — and on renovation work, sometimes it does — we stop, document it, and discuss it with you before we touch anything. No surprise charges.

When the work is done, we do a final walkthrough together. We go through everything item by item. If anything needs attention, we handle it before we leave — and before we collect final payment. We don't consider a job done until you're satisfied with the result.

Final payment isn't collected until you've done a walkthrough and signed off. That's our commitment on every single project.
